Collaborations

FoulPlay welcome commissioned work, and readily accept the different challenges presented by different situations demanding degrees of spontaneity and interaction with audiences. We work quickly and competently to devise all manner of performance installations, interventions and situations that come together to enrich guests experiences of different events. In addition to our theatrical endeavours FoulPlay Productions have also facilitated entertainment at parties, guest experiences at clubs and themed interactions at festivals and parades. FoulPlay Productions were commissioned to transform seven different areas of the SHUNT Vaults into individually designed spaces for a durational interactive installation of the FoulPlay production, The Office of Correspondence. The audience entered straight into the cacophony and mayhem of a dysfunctional office. Rooms included telephone switchboard operations, sorting offices, typist desks, head office and the Footsie 100 sock market. Punters had to navigate themselves through FoulPlay’s orchestrated commotion, interacting and participating to an extent which suited them best. Performances were complimented with films created on sets of larger than life staging, built with the assistance of SHUNT’s production team. Characters and key events from the theatrical performances continued to order the workings of the floor creating notable pauses in proceedings for the pleasure of SHUNT’s paying patronage, Foul-Play serving a dish of bloated bureaucracy before the belly of the London Bridge Vaults.

Shuntanimo bay of pigs

FoulPlay productions in association with SHUNT created a border crossing to accompany SHUNT’s curated event ‘The Peoples’ republic of SHUNT’. Set with the task of dealing with SHUNT passports for the event, FoulPlay Productions took the opportunity and freedom licencesed to us to develop ‘Shuntanimo bay of pigs’ – a gated border control crossing exploiting the possibility of a lawless land between two countries. After sever uniformed passport checks and ques, partronage of the SHUNT vaults ventured into a boarder town harbouring the lives of the unwanted, untamed, unregulated and unknown. Whores, beggars, soldiers, pimps and chancres praying on those stupid enough to venture by land to the Republic, all distinguishable by their adorned pig snouts, adding a grotesque depravity to the experience. FoulPlay Productions utilised the large corridor leading punters to the main body of the vaults, designing the space to evoke the totalitarian war-torn feel of an occupied state. en passage through the border town were accompanying military posts, A shooting range, security film and bar - with a range of curated acts specific to the event. Patronage would be ordered, directed, checked and they then could trade, drink, dance, play, sing or run right on through to less hostile climes.

PUBLIC ENEMIES

FoulPlay Productions were commissioned to stage an intervention before the red carpet premier of the Hollywood film ‘Public Enemies’.
In response to a film about bank robbers, we staged an unannounced cinema-wide hold up with a basic narrative in which a singer is taken hostage, gangsters try to rob the cinema patrons, and cigarette selling girls are revealed to be undercover splurge-gun toting cops, and a final show down between the inspector and the crime lord form a relentless, high speed and comic intervention in and amongst 300 unwitting audience members.
Feedback from the audience after the film declared that the unexpected intervention was more entertaining than the film itself.
